I’ve got a lot going on today, so I’m going to “try” and keep this post short.
In my mind, pretty much any time we fail to answer God’s call or do what He asks us to do, it all comes down to one of two things: laziness or fear.
Wouldn’t you agree?
Sometimes they even come together. We are too afraid to answer God’s call and do our duty, and we are too lazy to move forward.
Because listening to God’s leading and following through is at least a really large part of our walk with God, if laziness and fear are the two main things that keep us from doing that, then it is vastly important that we have a weapon against these two things.
As I said in a previous post, scripture really is our most powerful weapon. In fact, it is our sword. Faith is our shield, but the “the sword of the spirit which is the word of God” is our weapon.
In a previous post I talked about laziness and gave a bunch of verses to overcome it.
You can read it here:
I’m thinking I’ll do the same sort of post today, only my talking is going to be a bit shorter. 🙂
Of course, the fear of the LORD, or the awe of God, if you want to put it that way, is probably the biggest thing that helps us overcome fear. Also knowing that God is truly with us and has gone before us. You can read my post on the fear of God here.
Enjoy these verses! May you be refreshed by the word of God!
“Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. As my pastor says repeatedly, when the Bible is repetitive, God is probably trying to make something clear. Do not fear man. Fear God.
Do not fear for your future, do not fear for you earthly life, fear God alone. The fear of God should motivate you forward, fear of man tries to silence God’s voice. Do not fear. He is with us. He will never leave us.
“God is is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
The holy dwelling places of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered;
He raised His voice, the earth melted.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold.”
I pray you would all find peace and joy in the midst of whatever there is around you to fear. Rest in God and be still. Listen, and obey. Do not fear. He will deliver.
